Stylianos received an LLB (Hons) in 1998 from the University of Hull. In 1999, he read law at the University of Nottingham from which he graduated with a degree of Master of Laws in International Commercial Law and thereafter, he became a Barrister at Law of Grays Inn. Following his academic achievement, he, obtained two professional certifications:
In 2004 he became a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and in 2015 Qualified Insolvency Practitioner.
Stylianos returned to Cyprus in 2001 where, after concluding his pupillage, he worked for some of the most renowned companies and organisations in the Island as a litigation lawyer and was quickly promoted to Head of the Litigation Department. In 2005, he established Stylianos N. Christoforou & Co LLC with offices in Nicosia and Limassol Cyprus and Bucharest, Romania.
Stylianos is also the exclusive legal consultant of a great number of large companies, organisations and institutions in Cyprus.
As a lawyer, he possesses an outstanding legal expertise in a spectrum of practices including but not limited to employment and labour law, commercial law, protection of personal data, company law, tax law, family law, property law and strategic business consulting. Furthermore, he has handled a number of local and international arbitrations as well as numerous high profile negotiations between employers and trade union representatives. Stylianos represents clients before all level of courts in Cyprus including the Supreme Court and all District Courts.
Since 2008, Stylianos has been a visiting lecturer of Labour Law and Industrial Relations at the Cyprus International Institute of Management ( CIIM ), and since 2014 at the Mediterranean Institute of Management teaching Company Law.
In 2017 Stylianos was one the first lawyers in Cyprus to study in depth the General Data Protection Regulation and become an accredited GDPR Practitioner by TUV Austria. Following that he established DataKnights Ltd to offer GDPR compliance services to the Cypriot businesses. To date with the DataKnights’ team Stylianos has completed more than 68 compliance programs for a range of businesses including 6 insurance companies, 4 private schools, 4 private hospitals, 3 trading companies, 1 private university, 2 FOREX companies, 2 5 – star hotels, 2 4-star hotels, 1 boutique hotel in London and many others. Though the law firm Stylianos and his litigation team have handled with success a number of court cases involving data protection and have also advised enterprises on how to abide with the provisions of the GDPR on their on line communication with individuals, loyalty cards and automated profiling processes.
Resulting from his studies and expertise gained through his exposure with the GDPR, Stylianos is often requested to deliver training seminars on the GDPR and to be appointed as Data Protection Officer (DPO) of enterprises and institutions. He has so far delivered over 30 training seminars on the GDPR and has also trained over 45 individuals on acting as DPOs of their enterprises.
